So, you landed an interview for your dream job. You’ve done all the research you need to do to know about the company. You know all the little details and you’ve rehearsed what to say when the person asks “tell me three words that describe you best?”. But wait a minute… Your tattoos? Does it say anything on the company’s website their policy for tattoos? Probably not. Do you cover them up? Do you let a little show? What’s the best way of getting around that? Well, I have a few tips for you that I would do if I were on an interview.
First thing is first, when setting up your interview, it is always best to ask the hiring person on the phone what kind of interview you will be having. This is the best way to get your feelers out to see if you are having a professional interview, a business casual interview, or a casual interview. Which ever kind you are going to, I would always recommend wearing a long sleeve to cover any tattoos you may have up. But what if it is in the dead heat of Summer? I would suggest a light sweater for girls and light colored button up for the guys. This will make you look the most professional.
Now that we’ve got that covered, and you’ve made it to your interview… Heres what I would do next. At the end of the interview, the interviewer almost always asks if you have any questions for them. This is your perfect opportunity! The best way to go about it is just to ask! “What is your policy on tattoos?”. That’s to the point and the easiest way to get an answer! Then going forward, you will know to always cover up or to let your beautiful art stand out!
