One passionate woman based in Preston, England recently decided to permanently tattoo her dietary preferences on her forehead. The word “Vegan” is inked in curvy script directly above her right eye. In a recent interview, the woman stated, “I chose to get this tattoo as I’m incredibly passionate about veganism and know I’ll be a vegan for life.”
However, the internet wasn’t so accepting of the young woman’s ink. Commentor’s quickly berated the woman, labeling her as unemployable and doomed to regret her face tat. They also highlighted the stereotypical idea that people with vegan diets tend to be obnoxiously outspoken about what they eat. However, in her defense, the tattooed woman claims that the reactions stem from negative connotations with the word “vegan”, not the placement.

Despite the backlash, the woman doesn’t regret her decision. In response to statements of her being “unemployable,” she claims to have been self-employed since she was 18 years old. She also points out that the ink is easily hidden with makeup and bangs.
The woman also explained her motives behind becoming vegan in the first place. She claims, “I primarily went vegan a few years ago because of empathy for animals, but I’m still learning every day about the negative impacts of animal-based products,” she said. “I sometimes watch Netflix and YouTube documentaries and there are many on those platforms now which have helped to educate me further on the links between animal products and topics such as climate change, world hunger, water shortages, and many illnesses in humans.”
The tattooed woman isn’t the only one who has received criticism on the tattoo. Her tattoo artist, Jordan McCrea, faced so much negative feedback on Facebook that she removed a photo of the Vegan tattoo. In her defense, she wrote a public post that claims, “Who is anyone to take the piss out of what someone chooses to eat, never mind their reasons or what they do to show they’re proud of it.”
