“I can’t get through a single day of my life without music. I know you probably feel the same way. As a singer, you’re exposed in a different way because your instrument is flesh. And in a way sometimes I feel like I’m spilling my life and soul into a song. But that’s not even the hard part for me — What’s much harder to me than making music – is life. I’ll be very honest with you – I never have to reach for inspiration because life will batter your soul with extreme highs and lows.
For our last record, I was in a very broken place after losing my Mother and Grandmother in one weekend. But this record is different – this one is about getting back up. Sometimes music comes to me from a very dark and painful place and I don’t even know how I’m still alive, but that’s how diamonds are made. They’re cooked inside the Earth under incredible pressure – the best people in the World have suffered greatly. With “This Is Now” I made sure that these songs were something that we could dance to and celebrate what we the incredible gift of life. I feel so lucky to make music every single time I walk into rehearsal with four incredibly talented musicians. Being able to lock with these talented souls – is probably what a flock of birds feels like soaking through the sky, or what a surfer feels like when riding that huge wave.
I am so proud of this record. After tons of writing and rehearsals, hundreds of hours of commutes, months of mixing and mastering, and thousands of dollars, it is my fucking honor and privilege to release this great work of art to get inside your head and make you want to blast through life. And if you love this record: I encourage you to support Independent artists like us – buy their records, share their music, and go to their shows! The greatest part of making music is when I Iook out and see other people dancing with me and knowing that I made something worthwhile with time on this planet. I better see you at our record release show on Friday at Kingsland and if you can’t make it – you can buy it on wax or on cd!” – Rosie Rebel / lead singer
