Not every tattoo is going to turn out the way you originally envisioned and intended (there are definitely a handful of people who will agree with this). Along with all the tattoo fails are the ones that turned out just fine, but the wearers have made the decision to get them removed. This could be due to the fact they are bored with their tattoos, no longer want them to be visible, or the original meaning behind them has worn out its welcome.
Studies performed by the Premier Laser Clinic have revealed the top 10 most removed tattoos as of 2015. As you read the list, you’ll be able to tell that some of these tattoos fall hard under the 90’s tattoo trends category.
Let’s start from one of the most regrettable tattoos you could possibly get.
1. Ex Lover’s Name
Many couples and ex-couples think that by getting a tattoo of each other’s name, they are demonstrating the ultimate sign of devotion and affection. As appealing as it may sound to have your lovers’ name permanently inked on your body, there is always the chance that things won’t work out in the end. The intentions are pure, but we all know that getting their name tattooed might not actually be the best idea. However, there are definitely plenty of couples out there who are still together and have had their names tattooed on each other. So hey, to each their own and do what makes you happy!
Some people opt to get their tattoos removed by laser. Others make light of the situation by changing the appearance of their tattoo, like this one.
2. Butterfly tattoos
Although butterflies are beautiful, sometimes tattoos just can’t do them justice, or, they happen to be in a spot that the wearer feels is too revealing. However, this tattoo is undeniably stunning. Hopefully, this girl will never get it removed!
3. Stars
Star tattoos are also very common, but nautical stars, specifically, are the ones that people seem to get the most and probably have removed the most, too. This is just my opinion, not a fact.
4. Barbed Wire
Once upon a time, every tough guy and girl around had to get a barbed wire tattoo. Now, a majority of them are getting these tattoos removed. This used to be one of the coolest tattoos you could get. This is why it’s best to get a tattoo that you actually like rather than getting the latest, greatest trending tattoo.
5. Chinese Symbols
Unless you’re fluent in a foreign language such as Chinese, you might need to do some triple checking regarding the meaning of the symbol before letting someone ink it on your skin.
Though the idea behind these ‘90’s style tattoos is admirable, something clearly got lost in translation. All the more reason to do your research before you get inked.
6. Misspelled Foreign Quote
As mentioned in the last one, if you don’t triple check the translation of the Chinese symbol you’re getting, you could end up with something like this….
7. Celtic Tattoos
Although the Celtic trend has managed to remain somewhat popular, this type of tattoo still made the list. You might be a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a Celtic tattoo will do you justice – a lot of times this type of tattoo doesn’t turn out the way a person wants. As stated before, be very careful when it comes to following tattoo trends.
8. Zodiac Signs
Some people are into the zodiac lifestyle, enough so, that they will get a tattoo of their sign. Each zodiac sign has its own unique characteristics that people proudly don on their body. However, much like the rest of the tattoos on this list, some end up losing interest in these tattoos and end up getting them removed.
This tattoo is meant to represent a Libra for their balanced and loving nature.
9. Fairies
For centuries, countless folklores and myths have been told about fairies and their mischievous behavior. Whether they are dark and mysterious or fluttering with beauty and life, these little creatures have made their way onto the skin of countless people. They have also been zapped away by countless tattoo laser removal treatments.
10. Dolphins
Last, but not least, we have the infamous dolphin tattoo. This was another one of the most trending tattoos of the 90’s. Dolphins are adorable, friendly and beautiful creatures, so there’s no wonder why people got them tattooed. Sadly, now people everywhere are getting them removed, earning them a spot on the top 10 most removed tattoos.
