Inspired by the love and passion for art in all it’s different forms, Justin Haug has always held a special place in his heart for the tattoo industry. Growing up, Justin remembers his father having tattoos and how he continued getting them throughout his childhood. Through his father’s passion for ink, Justin grew familiar with the tattoo industry and fell in love with it. “They all treat each other like family,” he says.
Justin ended up taking an apprenticeship under his father’s artist and never looked back.
How long have you been tattooing?
Ten years.
How would you describe your style?
Neo-traditional, new school, traditional, black and grey, I would say I try to be very open-minded and just do a good tattoo no matter the style.
How many tattoos do you have?
Lol.. god if I had a penny for every time I have heard this question..lol…I always say one “BIG” one.
Most interesting/funny/awkward tattooing experience?
Well, I had a client want a starfish on her…umm how should say “anal area”..lol. Honestly the most awkward/funniest moment of my career.
What is one of your pet peeves as a tattoo artist?
when people touch a fresh tattoo just to look at it like they think it looks better when they touch it for some reason..lol it drives me nuts!
If you could tattoo any person in the world, who would you choose?
Nikko Hurtado hands down!
Besides tattooing, what are you passionate about?
I am also a musician I play guitar, drums, and sing. I also really enjoy golf but not very good at it.
Tell us about your shop/studio – what’s the vibe like/walk us through what can a client expect when they walk through your doors?
Our shop is honestly great! The atmosphere is always upbeat and goofy! our clients come in and get entertained from the time they are here till they leave (if they leave… we have a hard time getting people to leave the shop because we have such a good time and we are all family friendly).
Any advice for aspiring tattoo artists?
Keep grinding, never quit or get down on yourself, stay humble and treat each tattoo as if it’s your last one you will ever do. Do each tattoo with everything you got no matter how small it may be.
