Portsmouth Surf Rockers, Lucky 757, are full of old-school Rock roots and a familial element which enhances their creative flow and synergy throughout their latest LP release, ‘Lonesome Lagoon’. Here’s our track-by-track thoughts.
Kicking off with the first track, “Spanish Shore”, the guys introduce listeners to their old-school instrumental feel with guitar flair that mimics the likes of Santana and would serve to uplift and ignite the fire of people who are out for a night out on the town. The second track, “Mar Agitado”, is full of deep Rockabilly roots as the guys dabble into incorporating unique samples that are peculiar and rich in soul. “Cross Steppin” is the third track that is a classic in the making that would slide seamlessly into a movie soundtrack of a Western flick from the 1960’s.
The fourth track, “Reflecting”, carries out the intention of the song’s title as an instrumental surge of tranquility influences listeners to dive deep into a state of reflection. “Belvedere Banzai” is the fifth track that riles up the spirit as the fusion of Rockabilly and Surf Rock blends together with precision. The sixth track, “Fernando”, slows it down into a feeling that would serve the crowd at a smokey hole-in-the-wall bar in a desolate town. “The Voyager” is the seventh track that is a wanderer’s work of musical art that is full of the energy that is within a restless soul that finds themselves constantly traveling and exploring on the road. The eighth track, “Monsta!”, kicks it up a notch and mimics the feeling that comes from the intro of a 1970’s TV show. “Mugsy” is the ninth track that carries out an eclectic energy while showcasing the dynamic range that the guys of Lucky 757 are able to instrumentally explore. Closing out with the title track, “Lonesome Lagoon”, the guys dial down to the basics and create the impression that they are ending with ease and suddenly, they kick it back into a blast of soulful Rockabilly that is full of fun.
