Foodies (taco lovers to be exact), beer lovers, and music fans – Sabroso is for you. Why? The festival, located in Dana Point, CA hosted a taco eating contest featuring world famous Takeru Kobayashi, the man from Japan who holds many records, 8 of which can be found in the Guinness Book of World Records.
There is also a taco tasting contest judged on texture, taste, appearance, and creativity. The judges come from those in the foodie community and who have the pallet and ability to handle the food. The judges are not told whose food it is so there is no bias.
With over 100 craft beers on site and free tastings, this festival really is a favorite among beer fans. Some of the beers included: 805 Brewery, Belching Beaver, Abnormal Beer CO, Left Coast Brewing Co, and more. If beer wasn’t your thing, Jalisco Cola and Zico water were on site to keep you refreshed.
Wrestling fans – Sabroso has you covered as well. Lucha Libre wrestlers were in the ring (set up on the beach) to fight for being the champs of Sabroso Festival.
And now to the music: headlining the show was The Offspring with guests Pennywise, The Vandals, Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies, Unwritten Law, Los Kung Fu Monkeys and Naked Walrus.
As you can see festivals are about more than music. They are aimed at bringing people together. In this case, it’s for the foodies, craft beer lovers, and wrestling fans.
I do want to mention how all the bands gave 100% to the fans. Kicking off the day was Naked Walrus. This 3 piece has the ability to flirt with the crowd and then blow them away with a robust, full set of music hitting the ears. I would suggest keeping this band on your list of bands to check out.
A band that grabbed not only my attention but made me a fan from the first song was the Los Kung Fu Monkeys. The frontman made it a point to be part of the crowd jumping from the stage into the crowd, all the while not missing a word. Backed up by horns, drums, and strings this Ska/Punk band gets my seal of approval for face melting and fun. I know by the circle pit, yes I said circle pit, that I was not the only fan that felt that way.
The always fun and iconic Vandals lived up to their legacy as they rocked the sold-out crowd as only the Vandals can. Their performance included one of the very few times I’ve seen a beach ball used to play guitar!
Pennywise is known for putting on a fantastic live show and their performance at Sabroso was no different. They are a crowd favorite for a reason – they rip it up!
The Offspring… need I say more? Playing the songs that I loved as a teen and now share with my daughter, this band has been on my favorite list since they came out. I love the way they still get the fans into it. And how epic to see a sold-out crowd sing almost every song word for word and pit the night away.
Yeah… all that and more happened at Sabroso. If you want to know more check out the interviews with Naked Walrus and Los Kung Fu Monkeys coming soon.
Until then… horns up and stay tuned to The Edge Rock Radio – EdgeRockRadio.com – to hear the music from the bands.
