Detroit-based alt-metal trio Riding With Killers unveils their music video, “Novelty,” a track from the band’s recently released long player, Full Circle. Riding With Killers features Taproot guitarist Taylor Roberts.
Riding With Killers’ sound merges elements of alt-rock, industrial, and nu-metal into a ferocious sonic assault that’s equalized by contagious choruses and unforgettable guitar riffs. The video, directed by Jackson Swan, encapsulates the substance of Roberts’s lyricism and the band’s sound.
The brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Roberts, who put Riding With Killers together in 2018 with ex-Taproot drummer Dave Coughlin, the band’s current lineup includes Jed Thibeault (drums), and Kris Kress (bass).
Released at the end of 2023, Full Circle is a 12-track collection of songs featuring guests Paul McCoy of 12 Stones and Jennie Nord of Rave The Reqviem on vocals.
“Novelty” opens on a lightly strumming guitar topped by ethereal vocals flowing into a potent, mid-tempo rhythm. Roberts’s evocative voice imbues the lyrics with wistful tones as the melody undulates on ebbing and rising surfaces. On the chorus, the tune elevates with luscious resonance and heavier textures.
Suffused with yearning savors, there’s an underlying entreaty to “Novelty,” akin to a supplication for quixotic compassion.
The visuals reveal a kaleidoscope of colors mirroring the profound emotional essentials that are fugitive in Roberts’s relationship, an intimacy he longs for but that remains fugitive.
With “Novelty,” Riding With Killers evokes both gentleness and muscularity, resulting in an alluring song jam-packed with passion.
