Seasoned vets in the musical world and game of life, The Tigerlilies, are keeping their Punk-Rock spirits alive and well and have re-released the 20th Anniversary Edition of their debut album, ‘Space Age Love Songs’. Taking full advantage of the opportunities at hand to creatively expand and master the album, The Tigerlilies rock out over a weighty piece of musical art that is full of aggression, tension and passion that emits authenticity.
Kicking off with the first track, “Chances Are”, the guys blast off, turn up their amps and capture a hefty hit of adrenaline over a lyrically potent dissection of succumbing to falsehoods and living your one precious life tied to societal lies. “Contact” is the second track in which the band lyrically invites listeners into their imaginative minds from a place in which they just began their musical ride and felt free as a bird while experiencing things that once seemed unattainable. The third track, “Baby Star”, is a no-bullsh*t blast of Punk Rock instrumentals that leads into a lyrical unleash of romanticism within a full-blown ache to reunite with a girl that caught their eye while traveling along their wild ride.
“Realize” is the fourth track that slows it down into a grungy and moody musical exploration of cynicism as the guys come down from their Rock ‘N’ Roll highs. The fifth track, “Soul Kiss”, begins with a smooth guitar opening that instantly morphs into exhilarating intensity from Lead Vocalist, Pat Hennessey, as the guys lyrically reminisce upon a sultry and seductive females kiss that is tough to forget. “Come On” is the sixth track in which The Tigerlilies jump back into the pool of inspiration over guitar-centric instrumentals that kick-up the emotive and abrupt element. The ninth track, “Honey”, slows it down into a smooth ode to the apple of The Tigerlilies eye over an enduring and vulnerable lyrical spill highlighting back-and-forth emotions that have come about through the interpersonal connection. “Hopeless” is the tenth track that begins with an airy and eclectic collection of instrumentals that lead into lyrics that speak of being burnt-out and torn down by life experiences that have made the heart grow weary. Closing out with “Around”, the guys lyrically run-down a day in the life of a manic mind over rip-roaring instrumentals that are raw and rich in timeless influence.
Collecting all of their hits and misses, The Tigerlilies have nothing to hide and it’s a treat to experience that through listening to their jams. Notably, the guys have supported legendary acts such as Violent Femmes, Joan Jett, Paul Weller and Guided By Voices. For all of you human beings clinging to 90’s nostalgia and craving a dose of Punk-Rock soul, keep ‘Space Age Love Songs’ in mind when you’re whipping up your playlists. Fans of fellow musicians such as Counting Crows, Cheap Trick, Green Day and Nirvana unite as the Tigerlilies are right up your alley.
