Evan’s parents met at a music studio in Canada and later decided to move south to the U.S., landing in Texas, where Evan arrived. When he was 4-years-old, Evan began piano lessons, followed by the drums at age 11. He picked up the guitar at 18.
Not only musically gifted but bright, he received an appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. After graduating, he circumnavigated the world as a ship’s officer, working on mitigating the impact of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He also started writing songs.
In 2012, Evan “swallowed the anchor,” and returned to life on land, attending SMU, while putting together two bands – Bourbon Diesel and Uptown Stage – to help pay for his MBA. Two years later, with his MBA in hand, he went to work for JP Morgan. Meanwhile, over the course of a year, he assembled 14 demo tracks, followed a short while later by hooking up with Grammy-nominated Nashville producer Bryan Todd.
Journeying to Nashville’s Blackbird Studios in 2018, Evan and Bryan laid down tracks for his self-titled EP, followed by a string of singles, including “The Girl Next Door” and “Gone.”
“My Time Now” opens on growling country-rock-flavored guitars settling into a dark, thumping rhythm as Evan’s cool tones ride overhead. When the tune takes off, ramping up with sonic rock muscle, it discharges thick, hefty resonance chock-full of pulsing energy.
A scorching guitar injects the solo with searing licks while rumbling percussion gives the rhythm daring momentum, followed by Evan’s voice taking on mounting intensity.
Evan Troop has it going on! “My Time Now” heaves with brawny country-rock oomph and the evocative vocals of Evan Troop.
