Las Vegas synth-pop outfit Amarionette premiere the music video for “No Control” on Tattoo.
Formed in 2010, Amarionette is made up of Nick Raya, AJ Samiento, Ron Wells, Justin Brooklyn, and Spencer “Issy” Berry (vocals). Initially, the band went down the yellow brick road of post-hardcore. But then they changed direction, pursuing a retro-flavored synth-pop sound infused with indie-emo rock vibes. Their songs are hefty, yet injected with pop savors.
The band and former lead vocalist Quin White separated last year. Berry replaced White seamlessly, making for a smooth transition. Since Berry’s arrival, Amarionette dropped a new EP, AMVRI, and numerous outstanding singles, amassing more than 1 million streams on Spotify, as well as sharing the stage with Strawberry Fields, Eidola, and Kurt Travis.
“No Control” opens on sparkling guitars exuding streaming shimmering colors. The rhythm, composed of a delicious bass line with a funky groove and snapping percussion, provides a secure foundation. Hecka-impressive, the bass line is tight and right, with buttery shifting patterns following the gap-like breakdowns, which flow into tasty harmonic and rhythmic jumps.
The mesmerizing, unbelievably infectious melody blends elements of metalcore-lite with dulcet pop dynamics into a song glowing with magnetic energy – lots of sonic muscle topped by candied pop relishes.
Issy Berry’s voice is vaguely reminiscent of Bruno Mars, full of contagious surface tones and plush, intense washes of color. Layers of radiant background harmonies imbue the lyrics with vibrant depth and beau coup scope.
“I wanna take you for a wild ride / Twisted, Deviant / You won’t admit it / Tension / Feeling the disconnect / I don’t want this anymore / Don’t want this anymore / I get this feeling / You get this feeling / Wanna do it again.”
“No Control” is excellent, full of galvanizing palpable energy, tantalizing nuances of gleaming hues, and burnished vocals. Amarionette has it going on!
