Phoenix Duo, Snailmate, consists of two highly creative and bizarre human beings who live in their own world and are unafraid to express their idiosyncratic thoughts along the way. Having recently released their latest EP, ‘Existential Anxiety’, the duo tackles feelings of having to play a role in our modern world and being unable to connect with the faulty versions of others over an extremely short release; here’s our thoughts.
Kicking off with the first track, “Night Life”, the funfun and funky nerds create a feeling that matches the sarcasm that Mindless Self Indulgence laced into their music as they Rap their way through their own doubts when it comes to stepping out into the world and being an active member of society. The second track, “I Woke Up For This?”, instrumentally incorporates elements of Electronic and Rock as Snailmate lyrically tackle the daily battle that comes with encountering anxiety around the clock while subliminally making it clear that both human beings are full of wisdom far beyond their years.
“On You” is the third track that shamelessly blasts right into a place of insecurity as Snailmate lyrically touches base on an individual who is attempting to project their own personal doubts onto another while in total denial of their own problems. Closing out with “3D Glasses”, Snailmate sing at the speed of a bullet while proving that they are within a chapter of life in which they are entirely lost and are far from concerned of what they may encounter next.
Snailmate will be touring throughout the states, Europe, Canada and Mexico until they make their way into their graves. If you’re a fan of fellow musicians such as Primus, Mindless Self Indulgence and Oysterhead, then grab your copy of ‘Existential Anxiety’ now on Bandcamp.
