Paris Band, Out Of My Eyes, have proven that they are unafraid to take risks and shift the trajectory of their musical path. Through dabbling into multiple genres and combining unique instrumental elements to create a niche of their own, Out Of My Eyes have discovered the the style of music that they are currently most passionate about creating. I caught up with the band to discuss bringing the music video for “Pigs Never Die” to life, being recently signed to Imminence Records, life in Paris, tattoos and more.
Congrats on recently signing with Imminence Records. Tell us about any current endeavors that you are working on and the upcoming album release in 2018.
Thanks! We are really proud to be signed with Imminence Records! It has been the best way to reward us for all the hard work we made. We are still working on some music videos and on our live performance to offer the best experience to our audience!
What is the greatest challenge that you guys have overcome as a band that has ultimately served to make you stronger and more aligned?
The best challenge we’ve overcome was our very first tour that was with the french band Shoot The Girl First. We were on the road for almost twenty dates and didn’t expect or understand what touring really was. It’s wasn’t that easy but it’s actually our best experience! It will mark us for life.
Your music video for “Pigs Never Die”, is creatively rich and eccentric. Tell us about the inspiration behind the video and who worked up the idea.
The whole clip was from an idea by our Lead Vocalist, Corentin. From the beginning, he always wanted to write a song called “Pigs Never Die”, way before Harry (Guitar/Vocals/Electro) came in the project. We took the time to write something powerful and efficient and Loïc finally found a very interesting guitar part for a chorus, and the whole song came from this chorus. From there, Harry who wasn’t part of the band at this moment, but just our producer at Efficient Records Studios, worked on some Synth parts to improve the guitars parts and a melody that stay stuck in mind.
For the music video, we let Corentin create everything, because it was his song, from start to end, and he showed us some awesome ideas. We are really happy with this music video thanks to our Director, Alban Verneret. For Corentin, it was a dream when he was young: shooting a music video “Bling Bling”, with a castle and big cars, thinking a lot about it and finding the “Pigs Never Die”. So he never gave up and Pigs Never Die was born. This song is also really important for us because it marks the musical turn the band has took and the arrival of Harry in the band, and so the arrival of all the Electro and Trap parts of our songs.
Any upcoming tour or festival appearance plans that you can fill us in about?!
Yes! We will be touring the United Kingdoms and will be in Belgium for the Heretic Metal Fest in January (from 01/23 to 01/27). We are also planning some other shows and touring for 2018.
What are some must-have pieces of equipment that you carry on the road?
The must-have pieces of equipment on tour are some spare pieces. Depending on which element is really important for your music. For Out Of My Eyes, the most important things are our samples, we are using an audio interface to run them, so we bought 2 audio interfaces, one for the show, the other one just in case. Everything is also backed up on the internet, for security!
Let’s talk tattoos. Tell us about some of your favorite personal pieces and the tattoo artists that you worked with to bring them to life.
Loïc’s favorite tattoo is his Mandala with the Out Of My Eyes’s logo at the center that is tattooed on his left hand. It represents his devotion to the band, even if he never thought he was gonna have the band tattooed on him. It has been tattooed by Lamine at Lamine Tattoo Shop who is also the tattoo artist who is tattooing Corentin in the “Pigs Never Die” music video.
Harry’s favorite one is the Kraken is has on his right arm which a beautiful piece representing a creature he’s always been fascinated by. It is tattooed by Marty Degenne, a French Artist based in Paris.
Corentin’s favorite tattoo is his face on his arm. It represents half of the face of a woman, half of the face of a demon. It was tattooed by the talented Eddie Czaicki at the 23 Rue Keller shop in Paris.
If you had the chance to get any tattoo budget-free from any tattoo artist in the world, who would you choose and what would you get tattooed?
Harry – An incredible realistic ‘Stranger Things’ tattoo from Ben Ocha, an amazing artist from California.
Corentin – An Angry Raccoon from Dusty at Tintin Tattoos in Paris.
If any of our readers were to be visiting Paris for the first time, what are some must-see destinations or special experiences that you recommend?
Go to the Eiffel Tower. We also have some very beautiful places like the Champs Elysées avenue, Montmartre, the “small belt” (for urbex), the Palais Royal place, the Louvre museum. There are a lot of places to visit! Oh, and if you like cookies, go to Scoop Me A Cookie, the best cookies in Paris!
If you could go out with any fellow musician for a rowdy night of karaoke, who would you choose and why?!
It’s different for each member. For Harry, he would be very honoured to share karaoke with Abel from The Weeknd, which is his favorite artist/singer of all time. As for Corentin, he would choose Jonny Craig, from Slaves; it would be very fun to see this happen.
Last but certainly not least, any closing messages for your fans?!
Thanks a lot to everyone supporting us, we couldn’t have been there without you. Stay tuned, it’s just the beginning!
