New Orleans, Louisiana-based heavy rock/nu-metal outfit Transient unleashes their new single/music video, “Sow.”
Formed in 2020 by Jody Linnell of Smile Empty Soul and 12 Stones fame, Transient began life as a solo project, but after a year, Linnell made the decision to recruit friends, who were also stellar musicians, and round out the lineup.
Made up of Jody Linnell (guitar, bass), Trey J. Mollo (vocals), Emmett Shumate (guitar), and Phil Krohn (drums), Transient entered KonKrete Studios in Kenner, Louisiana to record their debut single, “Nightmare,” with Jonathan Dolese. Shortly thereafter, Transient hit the road with PIGWEED.
Transient followed with “This Heart,” “Redefine,” “Goodbye,” “Chemical Burn,” and “No Light,” followed by their Singles Collection, Vol. 1 EP.
Now signed to Pepper Gomez’s rapidly expanding Wake Up! Music Rocks, with a roster of killer bands such as Ra, Breathing Theory, and ColdWards, Transient joins one of the foremost, innovative labels in music.
“Sow” opens on emerging spectral tones topped by a whispering voice, followed by massive guitars pumping out thrumming waves of music. The once susurrant vocals ramp up to melodic timbres riding suffusing harmonics. A shimmering breakdown leads to brawny, rasping vocals dripping with intense aching passion.
The ebbing and rising flow of “Sow” imbues the tune with mellifluous textures juxtaposed against viscous layers of impenetrable guitars, while the lyrics alternate between soothing and viciously snarling growls.
“So let go / Of the anger we hold /Our lives Are just way too short /To hold these feelings inside / Now is the time to / Now is the time to / Grow.”
The video, shot in Ridley Scott-like patterns of dark and light, is at once surreal and superbly wrought.
Surging with soft, persuasive interludes and titanic injections of immense, muscular dynamics, “Sow” is surely one of the best nu-metal tracks this year.
