Santa Rosa Beach, Florida-based alt-rock outfit Kickstand Jenny introduces their new single, “Solo,” featuring Mark Slaughter, a track lifted from their upcoming album, Between the Lies, slated for release on June 9.
Recorded in Nashville at Secret Sound Studio and produced by Chas Sandford, Between the Lies is a concept album about the death and rebirth of a soul. Inspired by the “death of live music” during the pandemic, the album reveals a phoenix-like desire to rise again.
Three years in the making, Between the Lies features ten tracks, including performances by Slaughter vocalist Mark Slaughter, and Rascal Flatts’ drummer, Jim Riley.
Made up of Preston Morelock (guitar), Scott Foster Harris (vocals), Chris Mcomas (bass), and AJ Sipos (drums), over the past few years Kickstand Jenny has established their reputation as a band on the rise, sharing the stage with Slaughter, Living Colour, Sebastian Bach, L.A. Guns, and LIT.
Rolling out on slow, murky tones, “Solo” flows into a thick, potent mid-tempo rhythm made up of crunching drums and a fat, thrumming bassline. Slaughter’s distinctive, delicious rasping-lite voice imbues the lyrics with urgent timbres, at once passionate and drenched in liberating tones.
Gradually building, the harmonics take on growling heft, elevating to a viscous wall of sound on the dazzling chorus. Searing guitar licks infuse the solo section with incandescent coloration, spiraling up on mounting notes.
Surging with dense energy atop a compelling rhythm, “Solo” pumps out intoxicating layers of wickedly muscular alt-rock oomph.
