South Florida-based alt-metal/nu-metal outfit Breathing Theory unveils their new single/lyric video, “Beautiful Disaster,” via Wake Up! Music Rocks.
Formed in 2008, Breathing Theory began life as a three-piece band under another name. As the band’s sound evolved, so did its lineup and name. Presently made up of Cory Britt (vocals), Rob Mahoney (guitar), Collin Morrison (guitar), Preston Daniel (bass), and Kegan King (drums), Breathing Theory has shared the stage with Apparatus, Motionless in White, Attila, Bobaflex, Sid Wilson from Slipknot, Flaw, Mushroomhead, POD, New Year’s Day, DED, Sick Puppies, and Evanescence, as well as performances at Earthday Birthday, InkCarceration, KinkFest, and Orlando’s House of Blues.
In 2011, Breathing Theory released their debut EP, Parasite, followed by two EPs in 2015 – Uprise (Part 1) and Uprise (Part 2). With the 2020 release of Balance, the band’s sound attained not only a wildly intoxicating dynamism but entered a singularly imaginative realm of muscular brilliance.
Since signing to Pepper Gomez’s label, Wake Up! Music Rocks, Breathing Theory has released “Collapse” and “Replicas.”
A surfacing guitar opens “Beautiful Disaster,” followed by Britt’s haunting voice atop embryonic colors. Thick guitars enter riding a throbbing, Jovian rhythm composed of powerful percussion and a subterranean bassline as Britt’s voice imbues the lyrics with visible, edgy textures.
“There’s something at the heart of you / That I cannot explain / It’s almost like you see into / The dark that calls your name / Tell me why you never find / Any sign of life inside / Do you deny / Your own design? A lie / You’re a beautiful / Beautiful / Disaster.”
On the verses, the harmonics descend to rumbling drums and resonant guitars and then ramp up to a thrumming wall of sound on the chorus. Listen closely to Kegan King’s stuttering double-bass on the solo section – finessed yet dominant.
The amalgamation of nonpareil, dense alt-metal and the elite, unforgettable voice of Cory Britt generates the best alt-metal song of 2022 – “Beautiful Disaster.”
