If there is a band that has the ability to sell out venues worldwide even though they haven’t released a full album in thirteen years, it’s A Perfect Circle. Bringing their enigmatic musical magic and blinding rays of truth to The Fox Theater in Detroit, A Perfect Circle gifted The Motor City with an experience that created entranced spectators that quickly fell under the spell of the band’s artistry. Massive silhouettes of the rockers playing “The Package” behind a curtain opened the show and set the tone for an enthralling evening abounding with a playlist for the ages. Diving into a variety of tracks from all three of their albums including “Weak and Powerless”, “Rose”, “Magdalena”, “The Outsider” and “Blue”, a mesmerizing act of catharsis was brought to life on stage by the band and injected into every fan. Lead Vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, riled up a storm when he announced that the mysterious rockers were set to release a new album in 2018, and the band played two new tracks, “Feathers” and “Hourglass”, that was received with excitement that garnered massive applause.
Although the majority of human beings undoubtedly live through and are attached to our digital handcuffs, A Perfect Circle’s ‘No Cell Phone’ policy is an enlightening gamechanger that enhanced the way that concertgoers experienced live music. Rather than viewing our digitized reenactment of the show, concertgoers minds were entirely engaged in the present moment as the theater of unplugged strangers sang along to nearly every lyric. Maynard James Keenan is a precious maniac that performs tricks in a shadowy corner, and Detroit became spellbound and in tune with the enigmatic ringleader’s wizardry.
