LA Garage Rockers, NYDTyson, consists of two oddball human beings who met in their rowdy college days and made the decision to come together to release their impassioned rage that has sprout from modern-day societies attempts to hold a blind eye and dismiss what’s holding them back from creating their own perceptions. Throughout their latest EP, ‘If You’re So Smart, Why Are You So Sad?’, Eric and Nick are an enigmatic pack of musical wolves that lyrically bring the cloaks of illusion to listeners attention in a cunning and inquisitive way. Here’s our take of the release.
Kicking off with the first track, “Egg”, NYDTyson take steps in the direction of a similar style to Primus through a downtempo effect that leads into a blast of guitar-work in the chorus that is full of spunk and spite. The second track, “What Did You Say?”, speaks to fans of Punk Rock music as cunning lyrics that tell the tale of no longer embedding effort into a failing effort of a relationship that no longer carries a spark. “Neanderthal” is the third track that mimics the likes of Pixies back in their ‘Bossanova’ days as a lyrical attempt to overcome shadows of doubt and pieces of life’s puzzle that hold individuals back comes forth and shines the truth on those that lead their lives consumed by outside opinion. The fourth track, “Who Cares?”, is a comical blast of subtle and sly lyrical intent that speaks directly to those who lead pixelated lives and hide behind screens to ultimately distract themselves from themselves. Closing out with “I Think We Both Know”, NYDTyson throw in the towel through a seemingly resentful shove in the direction of sarcasm that picks at those who are immersed in their own self-imposed misery.
For fans of Radiohead, Animal Collective, Primus and Mercury Rev, NYDTyson is right up your alley. And for those that lyrically seek to inspire listeners to take steps in the direction of their honest truth, then do yourself a favor and check out ‘If You’re So Smart, Why Are You So Sad?’ by NYDTyson.
