Cryptic Rock Duo, SKYND, are creating their music and aesthetic from a pitch-black and mysterious place. Through a dark and entrancing first release, “Elisa Lam”, SKYND is a project that is an enigma full of depth and obscure creative energy. I caught up with the duo to discuss the recent music video release, how SKYND came to life, imaginary friends, tattoos and more.
Congrats on the release of your debut track and music video for “Elisa Lam”. Tell us your intention behind releasing the track.
Thank you. “Elisa Lam” is still a mystery. It is about an unsolved case that has not been solved since 2013. Also, it was the first song Father and I written together which makes its even more special.
There is a dark and haunting element throughout the music video for “Elisa Lam” that is creatively powerful. What experiences led you toward the desire to release this element of darkness in the manner that you are as SKYND?
Skynd, my imaginary friends, is the one that came to me as a child who whispered dark stories in my ears that peeled off my skin. Also, I’m really interested in evil human psyche.
Tell us about the formation of SKYND. How did you meet and what brought you two together?
Father and I met in Australia at a Bush party. He was sitting on a stone rocking back and forth and something inside of me, a voice, told me to have a look. Therefore, I walked towards him set next to him, we started talking and the next day we already went to the studio. Father and I had an unexplainable connection way before we met as though we were twin flames. We are each others teacher, best friends, like siblings and so on. We clicked the first time we met and we felt the connection.
Let’s talk tattoos. Tell us about some of your favorite personal pieces and the tattoo artists that you worked with to bring them to life.
I have four tattoos. I had them done by different tattoo artists all around the world but they all have deeply personal meanings that i’d like to keep personal for now.
If you could get any tattoo, budget-free, from any tattoo artist in the world, what would you get tattooed and which tattoo artist would you choose?
I’d love to get a tattoo from Kat Von D. I’d probably get SKYND logo on my lower arm tattooed.
If you could sit under the table and listen to any two human beings have a conversation, who would you choose and why?
I’d be really interested in what Roger Waters and David Gilmour while recording ‘The Wall’ had been talking about.
Where do you see SKYND five years from now?
Playing live at Royal Albert Hall.
Last but certainly not least, any closing messages for your fans?!
Make sure you got your inner animal tamed because we are all capable of doing inhumane cruelties.
