The London Tattoo Convention, proudly presenting the 15th-anniversary edition of the UK’s biggest and best-loved tattoo show in London’s Tobacco Dock on 27th-28th-29th September 2019.
The event provides a platform to celebrate the globes 400 most influential tattoo artists with prestigious tattoo competitions, world-renowned guest judges including the King of black and grey and celebrity inker- Mark Mahoney, and leading Swiss artist Filip Leu.
The London Tattoo Convention (LTC) announces its journey to reduce plastic within the industry with a number of approaches, including providing all tattoo artists with eco-friendly products from suppliers Killer Ink, reducing the use of plastic and allocating recycling points throughout the venue. LTC has joined forces with Sea Shepherd on various future initiatives – to help this a marine conservation charity protects ecosystems along the UK’s coastline.
The UK’s oldest tattooist, 86 year old Plymouth based, Doc Price will ink his last ever tattoo at LTC, he lays down his needle after seven decades of decorating somewhere between 28 and 40 acres of skin.
This year, we have teamed up with Vans to create a half-pipe skating ramp, with a masterclass from skateboarding legend, Steve Olson, as well as displays from Vans professional boarders and daily skateboard sessions.
Much more than just tattoos, there will be art exhibitions, workshops, live music, electrifying live performances, a chance to win a customized Gretsch Guitar supporting music charity Nordoff Robbins, sample the most delicious street food whilst drinking craft beer and an opportunity to win a ‘golden tickets’ to the event.
Tattoo Life guru and convention co-founder Miki Vialetto have handpicked over 400 of the world’s most talented tattoo artists. Visitors can watch tattoos come to life in every style imaginable from hand-poked Japanese ‘tebori’ and authentic Polynesian tribal to hyper-realistic portraiture and jaw-dropping bodysuits. Opening the weekend will be a traditional blessing ceremony by highly regarded Samoan traditional tattooist Lawrence Ah Ching in the main hand-tapping tattooing area at the Dockside Gallery.
The prestigious daily tattoo competition will showcase the best work judged by our expert panel. Special guest judges include Mark Mahoney, artist to the stars and muse of Lana Del Rey, Johnny Depp, and Filip Leu, one of the world’s most influential tattoo artists. ‘The People’s Choice Award’ will allow the public to vote for their favorite tattoo artist in advance of the event, with the coveted award handed out on Sunday.
Breathtaking fire and aerial performances will come from The Fuel Girls and live music from The Quireboys, Never The Bride, Hell’s Bells (AC/DC tribute) and Urban Voodoo Machine. Gretsch Guitars stage will be offering the opportunity to ‘Jam with Gretsch’, in between live blues sessions and the chance enter a charity auction and win one of five customized guitars being displayed over the weekend.
Specially curated art exhibition and workshop areas give insight into the history of tattoo art and how the culture has developed – highlights include:-
- Live painting seminars and exhibition from the highly collectible LA-based tattooer and artist Shawn Barber, who has previously painted Kat Von D
- A charity art project for Operation Underground Railroad, ‘The Tattoo Fan Club, features 200 customized Japanese fans by famed tattoo artists.
- Tattoo artist Andreas Coenen will curate a selection of over 100 works from tattoo artists inspired by tattoo master Ed Hardy.
- Founder of London’s iconic ‘Into You’ tattoo studio, tattoo artist and printmaker Alex Binnie will present a retrospective of his art spanning 25 years.
- Zozios will show a collection of portrait photography, featuring iconic Japanese tattoo artist Horiyoshi III.
- Tattoo artists Benjamin Laukis and Mayo will present a collaborative live art show based on experimental script and lettering.
- US-based tattooer and painter Mike Dorsey will display works showing his inventive take on classical Japanese paintings.
- ‘Faces of the Future’ – An exhibition by tattoo artist Hanumantra exploring what tattoos of future tribes of humanity, featuring well-known blackwork artists.
Tattoo aficionados can take a break from all the buzzing and visit the selection of alternative traders selling everything from unique fine jewelry to taxidermy, sip LTC own beer brewed by Beavertown. Or visit the dockside, street food trucks where vegan junk food comes from specialists Biff’s Jack Shack and their deliciously filthy fried crispy jackfruit (the world’s weirdest fruit) and winner of British Street Food Awards – Buddha Bowl will return with healthy fresh options.
