St. Louis-based heavy rock/metal outfit Inimical Drive releases their latest single, “Victim,” co-written and produced by Daniel “DL” Laskiewicz of Bad Wolves. “Victim” follows on the heels of last year’s EP, From Solitude.
Talking about the song, vocalist Joel Colby shares, “I have been inspired by so many people around me who have faced adversity and choose to overcome rather than succumb to victimhood.”
According to Colby, “Victim” reveals his own struggles, disappointments, and triumphs through the lyrics, baring his vulnerability and strength, refusing to be defined by life’s battles.
Known for their impressive live performances, Inimical Drive has shared the stage with bands like Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, Bad Wolves, For the Fallen Dreams, The Funeral Portrait, and Otep. They’ve been featured on premier media outlets such as Revolver, iHeartRadio, and Noisecreep.
Their music, fueled by hi-octane dynamics, delivers the passion of defiance, empowerment, and expectation. At the present juncture, Inimical Drive is preparing to return to the studio to write and record new material.
“Victim” rolls out on potent percussion topped by chunky guitars discharging flavors of industrial metal, highlighted by walloping drums and the muscle of a fat, vibrating bassline. Colby’s evocative vocals, edgy and aching with the pain of angst and effort, imbue the lyrics with intense pangs of imminence.
An incandescent yet controlled guitar solo injects the tune with smoldering, luminous licks, followed by a dreamy bridge that ramps back up to heavy textures and dark, rumbling vocals.
Drenched in the vehement fervor of Joel Colby’s voice and fierce guitars, “Victim” thrums with pressure, sound, and thick heft.
