Stemming from Warren, Michigan with small town roots and an eccentricity that has added a creative touch to the world of Electronicore, I See Stars has creeped to the forefront with a cohesive and mature sound that is tough to dismiss. Maintaining a top spot over five studio albums and more to come, I See Stars transcendental musical vision is seemingly from Planet Mars. I caught up with the guys live at The 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards powered by Monster to discuss upcoming tour dates, up and coming artists in Michigan and more.
Rumor has it that you guys are from Michigan. Where did you guys grow up?
Devin – We grew up in Warren, about fifteen miles away from Detroit!
What have you guys observed that has creatively advanced over the years in Detroit?
Devin – Bands! So many bands. The music scene from our scene to the Electronic world; there are a lot of thriving bands. Yeah, you have people like Big Sean, Kid Rock and Eminem, but there are a ton of local and independent musicians and bands that deserve some credit.
Andrew – Alright, here we go! True Blue is a band that we really love from Detroit. Undesirable People. Is another band that is very incredible; their guitar player has some really reminiscent Pink Floyd vibes and he is bringing something really big to the sound. They run with a lot of Punk bands and everyone should check them out!
We definitely will. Are you guys currently on tour at the moment?
Devin – Yeah, we are! We are on tour with Crown The Empire for about ten more shows. We have some festival appearances coming up as well.
Andrew – I failed to mention that there is also a lot of really great Detroit Hip-Hop like Danny Brown, Dopehead and my man, skywlkr, that produces for Danny Brown. People in Alternative music need to take a step out of their comfort zone, because I feel like there is an Alternative/Rap phenomenon going on.
Do you feel that you guys will be collaborating with any Rap artists in the near future?
Andrew – We just did a headliner and we brought skywlkr out which was incredible! We are really trying to do things our way, so yeah, absolutely!
