Vancouver Musician, Geoff Gibbons, candidly explores a chapter of his seasoned life throughout his full-length album release, ‘Buffalo Hotel’. Freeing himself from a piece of his life’s puzzle that has caused him internal struggle and strife, Geoff lyrically confronts his thought-out decision to leave a remnant of his past behind over the first track, “Ain’t Goin’ Back”. Strumming into the second track, “Lonesome Angel”, Geoff’s exceptional songwriting skills come to light as he traverses through the worn-out mind within an angelic woman who lives through a dialogue of the world that is out of the ordinary and rich in creativity. The third track, “Carolina Bound”, is the perfect track to play while sitting around the fire with friends and chatting about the week that everyone has left behind while Geoff takes his chances at a new life in a promising town.
One of the album’s highlights, “Hard Hard Rain”, is the fourth track which is a chilling and mournful lyrical ode to facing life’s challenges and doing your best to remain in a state of grace for what has you’ve endured through the storm. The sixth track, “The Other Side”, opens with a long and soothing instrumental that leads into lyrics that speak of the passing of time and how remaining optimistic through a significant interpersonal separation leads the mind toward a state of clarity. Geoff is vulnerable and places the seventh track, “Back to You”, at the right time throughout the album as he faces the almighty internal eruptions that come through a breakup to challenge lonely and restless souls.
The ninth track, “Blinded by Tumbleweeds”, pulses with life and vigor as Geoff’s nomadic spirit takes off into the unknown and traverses through distant lands that fulfill the desires of his soul. “Picture of Adeline” is the tenth track that is a romantic slow-burner that speaks of missing the other half that Geoff once spent his life with prior to her committing the crime of running off with another man. The eleventh track, “City from the Stars”, is a clear indicator that Geoff isn’t satisfied by the rush of life as he dials down into a state of serenity to reminisce on what he finds to truly matter. Closing out with “Where Midnight Rolls”, Geoff pushes the envelope of his style and closes with a strong track in which he shakes loose devils of the past over a multifaceted level of production.
‘Buffalo Hotel’ is full-bodied album that delivers sweet southern soul laced with old-school Rock instrumentals. If you’re a fan of a mixture of artists such as John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Eagles and The Doobie Brothers, then check out what Geoff has to offer on Soundcloud.
