Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer Darius Martin drops his new single, “TATTOO,” a lovestruck reverie on loss and the natural tendency for people to slowly drift apart.
Martin explains, “No matter what, when you get into different relationships, they can leave marks on your mental, physical, and spiritual self, and especially on your heart. So much so that when you no longer have that person in your life it hurts like ripping off the tattoo that they left on your heart. Every lover, every friend, and family member leaves these little tattoos all over your soul throughout your life.”
Born in El Paso, Texas, Darius Martin spent his childhood in Alamogordo, New Mexico where he took influence from the vastness of the desert. Later, after moving to Southern California in high school, Martin was an active and serious athlete in his teenage years.
A serious illness led to Martin exploring music. He began experimenting with different sounds and genres, eventually coming up with his own fresh sound, followed by studying at the Los Angeles Film Institute, where he intensified his passion for music.
In 2022, he released “Feel a Way,” amassing more than 1.7 million streams on Spotify, followed by dropping “Crazy Now” and “Options” in 2023, along with “Some Time,” “BOTTLES,” “SECRETS,” and “SPARKS DON’T FLY.”
Martin’s sound blends elements of R&B and pop with catchy hooks, creating cool, contagious layers of alluring harmonics.
“TATTOO” opens on emerging, swirling tones flowing into a tight and right rhythm that rolls and undulates with voluptuous pulsations. Creamy, shimmering harmonics give the melody a velvety, coruscating feel, highlighted by Martin’s evocative, silky-smooth voice, at once dreamy and oh-so seductive.
Lush and stylish, constructed around a throbbing, rumbling-lite beat, “TATTOO” drips with the beguiling vocal timbres of Darius Martin.
