Turning a dream into reality came true for Omaha, Nebraska’s, Through Fire, whose hit single, “Stronger”, landed at number one on iTunes and number one on SiriusXM’s Octane. As a variety of accomplishments continue to be brought to life at a rapid pace, I caught up with the guys to further discuss their success, nonstop tour schedule, and more.
Congrats on the success of your breakthrough debut album, ‘Breathe’. Give our readers an example of how your lives have changed ever since the record was released in July.
Thank you! The main thing that has changed for us is we’ve been touring nonstop. We’ve seen the country coast to coast this year and we don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon!
Through Fire is signed on Sumerian Records, which houses an extensive collection of very talented artists. What fellow Sumerian Records act are you really diggin’ at the moment and why?
Always been a big fan of Asking Alexandria… why? Because they kick ass.
You guys just nailed down the slot for the official theme song for WWE’s Backlash. Were you fans of the WWF/WWE growing up? If so, what was your favorite match of all time and why?
I was a huge fan when I was a kid. I wanted to be the Ultimate Warrior or a rockstar, ha! The Ultimate Warrior winning the belt against Hulk Hogan was my favorite match. I think that will go down in history as one of the greatest matches ever because Hogan held the title for so long and was finally beat.
It seems as though Through Fire has been touring nonstop this year. You’re coming off of a tour with Sick Puppies and gearing up to hit the road with Failure/Anthem. What do fans have to look forward to on this tour?
A great lineup. All the bands are awesome live and we all give 200% every night.
I perceive that you guys have been able to dabble into a variety of local craft beers around the country. Which three local craft beers have been your favorite so far?
If the guys drink they typically stick to their Miller Light…
How long have the four of you known each other? How did you meet and form such a distinct and passionate chemistry as a band?
We’ve known each other for several years. We met through the music scene in Omaha, Nebraska. The chemistry comes from taking stage night after night and getting better as a whole.
Tell us about your songwriting process. Does each member contribute or is there one of you that leads the way?
Justin – I write the majority of everything. From the lyrics and melodies to all the instruments. There are a couple songs on this album that Jesse co-wrote music on and a song Grant wrote a verse on, but in general I’m the songwriter for the band, I also produced the album.
Let’s talk tattoos. Tell us about some of your artwork and the artists that brought them to life.
Jesse – I’m an artist, I actually owned a tattoo shop in California for a while before I decided to do music full time. I have a Frankenstein tattoo on my leg, that’s the first piece I did on my own. I’ve always been a huge fan of old horror films. My right arm is covered in Japanese art, my favorite of which are two lanterns & writing saying good fortune and music. On my left arm I have angels and demons which was inspired by one of my favorite books, Dante’s Inferno. I’m looking forward to getting my neck tattooed and a full back piece.
Let us in on one secret: tell our readers one thing about Through Fire that they may not already know about you guys.
No secrets here. We’re an open book. Hard work, dedication and focus… that is what this band is all about!
Last but certainly not least, any closing messages for your fans?
Our fans are everything to us. We have the ability to do what we do because of such incredible support from our fans! We’re all one big TFIRE NATION family!
