St. Louis rockers, Tear Out The Heart, are a hidden gem in the metalcore world that is gearing up to bring to life more aggressive sounds for the follow up to their second studio album, ‘Dead, Everywhere’. Being signed to Victory Records and weaving stories together to capture fans around the world, Tear Out The Heart deliver a realm of storytelling through their lyricism that is infectious. I caught up with lead vocalist, Tyler Kasch, to discuss what’s in store for 2017, his journey as a musician, tattoos and more.
First and foremost, introduce yourself to our readers. Who is Tear Out The Heart?
My name is Tyler Kasch and I am the lead vocalist and lyricist for Tear Out The Heart. We are an aggressive yet melodic metal band out of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Is there a follow-up to your second studio album release, ‘Dead, Everywhere’, in the works that you can fill us in about?
It’s early but we’re certainly writing. We’re taking our time. We want whatever we bring into this world next to be our absolute best. I like to think we’re on a strong path to the next album being definitive for this band and the genre.
How has growing up in St. Louis influenced your artistry as a musician?
Being from the Midwest will certainly mess with your emotions. Lots of random cold & grey days that you have to mentally fight through. As silly as it sounds, the weather is something that’s always directly affected my mood. It has its ups and downs but ultimately it’s also taught me to appreciate loyalty and my connection with friends and family. All of this in which is my inspiration to be a better lyricist and musician.
Let’s talk tattoos. Tell us about some of your favorite personal pieces and the artists that brought them to life.
My favorite pieces would have to be my throat, which are some lyrics from the song “Hear You Me” by one of my all time favorite bands Jimmy Eat World. Another would be my left hand, which is Majora’s Mask from The Legend Of Zelda franchise.
I’m a big gamer so that will always be one of my favorites. Both pieces were done by my boy Sean Baltzell out of Tower Classic Tattooing here in Saint Louis. No one else’s lines or colors pop and stay bold like Sean.
What are your current top three albums that you are jamming out to and recommend?
“Nothing I Write You Can Change What You’ve Been Through” is definitely my favorite album of last year right with Blink 182’s “California”. Also really digging Saosin’s latest record “Along The Shadow.”
What is your perception of the current state of metalcore worldwide?
It’s like any genre for me. If it’s genuine and done with heart, I back it. I will say I cannot get behind the bands out there who don’t write their own music or do it for the popularity and money. You hear of this a lot more often in Metalcore these days and it’s disheartening.
If you could tour the world with two bands that inspired you to pursue a life as a musician, who would you choose and why?
Slipknot and Blink 182. Blink’s “Enema Of The State” was literally one of the first albums I ever bought and Slipknot is my favorite metal band of all time. It would be a very odd tour but I’d be stoked!
Tell us about your journey as a musician. When was the first time that you stepped on stage?
I’ve been playing in crappy garage bands as early as middle school. Stepped onto my first stage sophomore year of high school and went on my first tour immediately after graduation. Haven’t stopped since. I grew up on the road traveling with my friends. Wouldn’t change anything for the world.
What do fans of Tear Out The Heart have to look forward to in 2017?
More tours, positive attitudes and most importantly A NEW RECORD.
Last but certainly not least, any closing messages for your fans?!
Thank you. The music industry certainly isn’t one of the easiest to get into or stick with but the continued die hard support from our friends and fans is what keeps us going. You are our creative fuel and for that we’re forever grateful. We’re hard at work on something we think will change not only our only lives but hopefully yours as well. Cheers!
