Lacey Sturm is one of the tiniest people I have ever met with one of the hugest voices out there. Most of you know Lacey from Flyleaf fame. Now she is out on stages doing what she does best and that is captivate, inspire, and rock out. Her new album “Life Screams” is her lyrically positive and passionate take on life. It was a blast to talk with her at Carolina Rebellion and then several more times, off camera at Northern Invasion and Rock on the Range.
Mel: Hi! I’m Mischievous Mel here at Carolina Rebellion with ROCKwell UnScene and Tattoo.com, and I’m standing here with Lacey Sturm. Your lyrics are extremely powerful, do you write them?
Lacey: As far as lyrics go, yeah I pretty much write them all.
Mel: You basically said, “F*ck the negative, I want to do positive,” and your lyrics show that.
Lacey: I really do take words seriously… if you didn’t mean it then don’t say it.
Mel: Can you tell us about your new music is and where we can get it?
Lacey: It’s called ‘Life Screams’ and it’s out, you can get it anywhere and definitely on our website. You can get it there, iTunes, Spotify, all that good stuff.
Mel: Do you have any tattoos you want to show us?
Lacey: This one here says “Daughter” and “Laughter” at the same time.
Lacey: …and then I have this on my back.
Mel: Do you ever plan on getting color tattoos?
Lacey: I have a little bit of color on my leg.
Mel: Who is your tattoo artist?
Lacey: I just found a guy who owns a shop outside Pittsburgh where I live. I don’t think very many people know him, but his name is Mike. I think he’s one of the most phenomenal artists.
Mel: Can you tell us what you’re doing next?
Lacey: It’s going to be a lion on my shoulder area. I think the color thing is too much for me, and I already have colored hair. Everything is black. I told my stylist one day before I left for tour that she had to come with me, and so I picked her up the day before tour and she went with us the whole time while I was in Flyleaf. So she was my assistant/stylist. She always tried to put eyeshadow on my eyes and I would be like, “What is this! Get it off!” and now I do it all the time.
Mel: We want to thank you for coming and for talking with us!
