Pennsylvania rockers, CKY, have been going strong ever since their wrecking ball in the form of music 1999 release, ‘Volume 1’. Currently making crowds transform from mellow to rowdy while performing in-your-face classics such as “Hellions on Parade” on Vans Warped Tour, CKY just released their fifth studio album, ‘The Phoenix’, and I caught up with the guys at The 2017 Alternative Press Music Awards powered by Monster to discuss the recent release, tattoos and more.
First and foremost, tell us about how CKY has truly made their mark in the Punk/Metal scene over the past few decades.
Jess – It’s been so good. We steer clear of trends, and in the long run, that makes your career last so much longer. We try pretty hard to hit every different genre and not stick to one certain thing.
Exactly. You guys are on Warped Tour at the moment. Tell us about how the fans how been receptive to the new material.
Jess – It’s been going great! It’s awesome. I mean, you have Gwar, Beartooth, Hatebreed and so many great bands coming together at one event.
Right? Where else are you going to get such a diverse lineup? Tell us about some of your tattoos and the artists that have brought them to life.
Matt – They are all bad tattoos! (laughs) Every tattoo that I have has been done by a guy that owned a tattoo parlor and invited us to get tattooed after our shows. So, I basically have a ton of pieces that have been started, yet never finished.
At least you have memories that come along with the tattoos…
Matt – Exactly! The only one that means anything is the one that I have of a lighthouse, which is representative of me growing up in the shores.
Jess – I promised Kat Von D that if I ever get a tattoo, she would be the first artist that I went to.
Matt – I would love a tattoo from Kat Von D because it would be way better than any of my tattoos!
