Being critically acclaimed as a band to watch over the years to come, Brooklyn Metalheads, Candiria, have only just begun to light their flame and pave their way. Jumping on board at Warped Tour and causing concertgoers to run wild while swooning over the band playing tracks off of their 2016 release, ‘While They Were Sleeping’, Candiria are rockers that are abounding with positive energy. I caught up with lead vocalist, Carley Coma, on the red carpet at The 2017 Journey’s Alternative Press Music Awards fueled by Monster to discuss the music scene in Brooklyn and more.
Tell us about the current music scene in Brooklyn and what do you perceive has enhanced ever since the city has truly come creatively alive.
In my opinion, it’s a matter of the amazing venues that have just come about. We have Lucky 13 Saloon, Sunnyvale and Brooklyn Steel, so there is a real resurgence as far as people supporting local music and the same venues bringing in a balance of both local and national acts. You get this strong situation where local acts are opening up for national bands and it’s just the most healthy thing for our music scene.
Right? I perceive that it would make bands that are relatively new to the scene more comfortable to jump on board and perform as they observe other new bands doing so as well. You guys are on Warped Tour at the moment. How is that going so far?
It’s amazing. The fans are loving it and loving us. The crew has been amazing. The heat has been intense. We had a couple bus issues, but now we are riding around in Willie Nelson’s tour bus and everyone is just knocking on our door and asking us to come hang out!
Wow! How did you pick up that ride?!
It just worked out that way. I did a little research, and it turns out that Willie Nelson owned a fleet of Eagle Tour Buses that are not made anymore. We are riding on the last Eagle ever made!
What an honor.
It is a beautiful bus with alligator seats. It is so fulfilling.
