Taking a deep dive into their universes within to create their own abstract and indie-tinged version of Rock, California Pop band, The Great Escape, have released their new album, ‘Universe in Bloom’. Kicking off with the exhilarating opening track, “Let Me Go Wild”, the internally liberated rockers escape a life of routine and add a dose of Pop sensibility into lyrically exploring the thought of stepping into the wildest versions of themselves with nothing short of utter glee. The second track, “Good Day”, is stuffed with sunshine and a healthy dose of self-awareness as the charming and momentous lyrics take listeners for a ride through fields of daisies over a dream-pop sound.
“I Can’t Resist” is the third track in which warm doses of flirtation sprout through the chorus in which lead vocalist, Ingrid Andersson, frees herself from naivety and holds herself captive in the affirmations of her heart. The fourth track, “All You Got Is Gold”, begins with a light and airy acoustic element in which The Great Escape deliver the right dose of instrumental energy to get the vulnerable intention of the lyrics across.
“Life Is But a Dream” is the sixth track that takes listeners through a musical dreamscape that welcomes flights of fancy over a lyrical flutter of ease. The seventh track, “Better Together”, grapples with listeners heartstrings as The Great Escape throws themselves into a stratosphere of love that is enduring and endlessly enjoyable.
“All or Nothing” is the ninth track in which Ingrid lyrically toys with the idea of settling down into a partnership that provides the emotional substance that will aid in the development of her own inner world. Closing out with “Bad Reputation”, The Great Escape treks through their world of rebellion with a cunning sense of pride that leaves a mark in the hearts of those who don’t align with societal confines.
If you’re a fan of bands that create roads of their own such as Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, The White Stripes and Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, then you’re in for a treat over every listen of The Great Escape.
