Due to current restrictions on live music, most live shows/festivals being rescheduled, then the uncertainty of them being moved again. Musicians and their fans maybe feeling a little forgotten or sidelined by respective Governments, it really isn’t a great time to be in a band. We’ve seen many Livestream shows over the course of the last year, some great, some not so great, with one thing in common.. If it’s going to go wrong, the band won’t know a damn thing about it! Sounding terrible in an empty room, picture freezing it’s always a risk production will let you down.. well come on unless it’s pre-recorded, with a full film production it can be a risky business, unless you know a man that does…
For the month of January we see AVATAR team up with DANNY WIMMER PRESENTS for four livestream shows with a difference.. ‘Ages – An Impossible Concert.’
9th January 2021 – ‘Age Of Dreams’ (Review click here) This first live stream sees AVATAR play their latest release 8th album ‘Hunter Gatherer‘ in it’s entirety set for an audience at home. A stream taken to a whole new level. Not just happy with one live event on one stage, but taking in four stages at various points of each show, very carefully planned, with the band showing utmost amounts of energy, not letting up, those theatrical metal masters were infectious, as all kinds of forbidden magic ooze through your TV screen to meet the neighborhood. 16th January saw ‘Age of Illusions‘ albums 5 and 6 ‘Feathers and Flesh‘ and ‘Avatar Country‘ respectively, with costume changes. 23rd January saw ‘Age of Madness‘ album 4 ‘Black Waltz‘ and 5 ‘Hail The Apocalypse.’ Covering pretty much AVATAR‘s entire back catalogue.
The fourth and final event 30th January ‘Age of Memories‘ A trip back in time playing material not so well known from their remaining self released albums. 30 Minutes before the show starts, support band ‘Avatar’ ..!!!!! That’s right Avatar…previously unseen VHS video ( remember those..?? Haha..) What a treat to see a very much younger band playing one of their very first shows..!!! The main event see the band play minus the usual costumes and Johannes‘ now trademark makeup, also marking the first time guitarist Tim Ohrstron had played these songs live. “Unfortunately Simon Andersson couldn’t be here tonight, as he left the band” Jokes Johannes.
All in all the four events were outstanding, production was top notch in every way and most definitely raised the bar to a whole new level with regard to livestreams. Everyone who watched certainly got more than their moneys worth. A series of events in the life of AVATAR and what a journey it was. We can’t wait to see these metallers back live, on a stage, in an arena or a big field somewhere, anywhere!!
