It is always fun to talk to one of the bands that are playing a festival for the first time. Citizen Zero has been coming to Rock on the Range for a few years as fans and at this year’s festival, they got to perform. The excitement and energy of the band off stage is dwarfed by what they do on stage. Rockwell UnScene and Tattoo.com had a sit down with Citizen Zero at North America’s largest outdoor Rock festival, Rock on the Range. Keep reading to learn about their favorite bands, their music, their ink, and more.
Mel: Hey everybody it’s Mischievous Mel at Day Two of Rock On The Range and I’m here with Citizen Zero. Let’s talk about Rock On The Range.
Josh: We’ve been waiting for this for a long time and now that we’re here it feels like we’re living in a dream.
John: We’ve been coming here for like three years with our management networking and to play this year is unreal.
Mel: Who are you the biggest fan of here?
Sam: I like Highly Suspect.
John: I love Highly Suspect, Lamb Of God, Bring Me The Horizon and Ghost. I love everyone.
Josh: It’s a hell of a bill this year.
Sam: You can’t go wrong with any band here.
Mel: You guys are amazing yourself, but to play with all of these people must be amazing.
John: It’s the stuff you dream of growing up.
Sam: It’s amazing just to soak it all in.
Mel: You guys just dropped some new music, do you want to tell us about that?
John: We just dropped a new single last week called “Go (Let Me Save You)” and it’s on iTunes and Spotify. Hopefully the album will be out in August that’s titled ‘State of Mind’, but for now the teaser is “Go”.
Mel: We should talk about ink. First I gotta bust the balls of the ink-less guys.
John: He’s [Josh] the only one with any ink.
Sammie: I do want to be but unfortunately I have no money.
Sam: Before we left for this I was actually thinking, man I wish I could get a tattoo but I had to get a pedal board.
John: If money wasn’t an issue I would be covered head to toe.
Mel: Now we can go to the guy that has some ink.
Josh: This one’s for us – almost only counts with Horseshoes and Handgrenades. There’s a song off the album and the whole song comes around “Fight To Love” so I ended up tattooing that on myself. My grandma was born in 1936 and I’m the third generation of music in my family so that was important to me. So I got 1936. I’m a tried and true American citizen so I got a bigass eagle here on the side.
Mel: Do you want to shout out the artist that did that?
Mel: Do you plan on getting more ink?
Josh: I am. I’ve got a chest thing that’s coming pretty soon and I have a back design coming as well. I want to get another sleeve too.
Sam: I’m hoping to get a big cross right here with maybe some roots going down to my wrists. Then I’m trying to design something with trees and nature and water for this arm. It’s still in the works.
John: He’s [Josh] got tattoos because he has a job. Future plans… my brother passed away when I was seventeen and he was a guitar player too. I would like to get his guitar with wings.
Mel: That’s awesome. Well guys I’ve taken up too much of your time so thank you!
