When we’re on the road covering festivals across the country, it’s good to catch up with familiar faces from back home. We were 2,000+ miles from home when we caught up with L.A.’s own Butcher Babies at Northern Invasion (Somerset, WI) and again at Rock on the Range (Columbus, Ohio). At Northern Invasion Mischievous Mel had the chance to talk with the ladies about what’s next with the band and their ink…
Mel: Hey everybody it’s Mischievous Mel here at Northern Invasion 2016 and I am here with the one and only Butcher Babies!
Heidi: Hi!
Mel: For people that haven’t seen you I have to say, you guys are super tiny but you get up there and just blow everyone away. I don’t know where it comes from.
Heidi: My mom always says I practiced that screaming in the car seat growing up, so I think it came from that.
Carla: I’m just an angry kid, still.
Mel: You ladies have been going all over. Can you tell us about your touring and where you’re going next?
Heidi: We just got home from Europe which was really fun. We were there for a month and we got to go to Scandinavia, the UK, all over Europe. We came here and we’ve been doing a couple dates with Lacuna Coil which has been great, and we’re doing Rock On The Range which we’re also really excited about.
Heidi: Then we get to go home for a couple of months and write the next album and recharge our batteries. We’ll be hitting it hard back in the fall. One thing that we’re really excited about is Chicago Open Air Fest, which is going to be incredible. We’ll be doing that as well.
Mel: We’re really stoked about that too, Rammstein is going to be there.
Carla: And how stoked are we that we get to played mainstage with Rammstein.
Mel: How does it feel to be doing that?
Heidi: It’s on our bucket list, so check!
Mel: Tattoo.com is giving away tickets to Chicago Open Air actually (2 VIP & 2 GA weekend passes). Speaking of Tattoo.com, you guys have ink. Can you tell us about it?
Heidi: I just got this in New York by Carl Grace who is a free-hand artists. I love it, it’s an eyeball with claws coming out of it. I’ve had the idea to do that for a while. I have right here “Once Upon A Dream”. My favorite princess has always been Sleeping Beauty and I also think that this has a lot to do with the band and my dream. This of course, I stole from our old tour manager. It’s the Pagan symbol for the God Of Death but I’m not Pagan, I think it’s just cool looking. The “555” is from one of my favorite Slipknot songs. I’m not going to get “666” so I thought I mind well get “‘555”. Those are the ones that are visible right now. I have some on my feet and she has a few.
Carla: I have some but I’m not a huge fan of tattoos on myself. I’m an artist so I love drawing, I love art and I think tattoos are beautiful but there’s never been anything yet that I’ve wanted so badly that I have to it on my body permanently. So besides a few little feet tattoos, I don’t have anything.
Heidi: Karla and I were supposed to get these matching together and at the last second she backed out. So she has to get it still.
Carla: I still have to get our matching tattoo, but she knows why I didn’t get it that day.
Heidi: Yeah a little black heart. I’m expecting it. I have “T-Rex” written across my toes because my friends growing up and still to this day call me that because I can belch anyone under the table, anyone.
