You don’t have to look past the cover art to know that the members of On Broken Brings aren’t messing around with the term “heavy” in reference to their upcoming Artery Recordings release, Disintegrator, which is slated for release on August 19, 2016. The art, which features a young boy with a handgun pointed at his head, pretty much speaks for itself in terms of the album’s theme and overall lyrical content.
Now on their fifth release, the hardcore veterans continue their merciless songwriting trends to bring attention to quaking percussion, apocalyptic guitars, and venomous vocal melodies and screams. This band has set out to kill, figuratively speaking, with their aggresive and abrasively urgent full-length.
Songs such as “Kunomuia” offer precise syncopation and dissonant guitars while tracks like “Dirt Nap” are anxious and uncomfortable anecdotes.
Disintegrator is the perfect hardcore anthology in that, similar to a horror film, it forces you to feel uneasy and impatient. Hardcore isn’t meant to be relaxing or peaceful. It’s all about rage caused by the corruption in the world, and the members of On Broken Wings successfully convey a relevant response to it all through eleven delightfully monstrous tracks.
