The beginning of summer is only a few days away, and many are looking forward to the excitement and vacations that summer time brings. One of the best vacation spots is, of course, the beach. Whether swimming, surfing, diving, or just watching the beautiful waves crash upon the shore, the ocean is one of the most popular destinations for summer time. In honor of the Summer Solstice (June 21), I have chosen a few of my favorite ocean and beach related tattoos. These tattoos pay tribute to the vast and amazing bodies of water that take up most of the earth, as well as the activities that take place on beaches and in the sea. Let these great tattoos get you in the mood for some beach relaxation and recreation.
This framed tattoo of the ocean looks just like a painting. The pretty tattoo evokes nostalgia and a sense of beauty and wonder only experienced when looking out from the beach. Done by Vince (https://www.flickr.com/photos/vincewishart/).
This watercolor styled tattoo of a mermaid on an anchor is incredible. This tattoo by Deanna (https://www.flickr.com/photos/graphicward/) is both beautiful and creative.
Whether board surfing, body surfing, or just watching, the waves of the ocean are one of its greatest appeals. Waves are both gorgeous works of nature and dangerous, destructive forces. Anthony in Sydney (https://www.flickr.com/photos/87232815@N00/) perfectly captures both sides of the wave in this tattoo.
This tattoo by Duke Riley looks more like a print than a tattoo, and I mean that in the best way. This creative rendition of the ocean is reminiscent of old-timey map art, which is very cool. (https://www.flickr.com/photos/foresthills/3744114299)
This amazing sleeve was done by Eridanos in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The artwork is incredible and the execution of the tattoo is so smooth it looks like it could be a drawing or a painting. (http://www.tattoo.com/oceanunderwater-sleeve-done-christian-perez-eridanos-252917)
This tattoo features ocean life with fantastic execution of marine creatures. This beauty was found at assusman’s deviantart, and more work can be found at (http://www.imagineartistry.com/).
Another amazing tattoo of marine life, this sleeve is excellently done. It looks as though it could be a photograph or a painting attached to this person’s arm. This tattoo is so realistic, I feel like the dolphins are swimming right at me. I just adore this tattoo by Grimmy (http://grimmy3d.deviantart.com/).
