One could choose to get this tattoo to show their transformation from a young lady to a grown woman. Butterfly tattoos can represent change in ones personality or growth as a person. 

     It also represents life and death or rebirth. The butterfly is a free spirited creature which can inspire people to be free spirited in their own lives. The metamorphosis of a butterfly sparks many stories and myths which people can apply to their own lives. In Germany, butterfly tattoos are omens of birth. In Chinese culture they symbolize rebirth. The Maya used to describe butterflies as disguised spirits of the dead. The metamorphosis of a butterfly is one of the greatest mysteries of nature. What is interesting is that the butterfly tattoo was not always seen as a feminine tattoo. In ancient Japan, the butterfly was a strong symbol among the Samurai. The butterfly was a war symbol and symbol of fire among the Mexican Populaces and the ancient Roman Emperors. It is one of the best tattoo choices for someone who has just undergone a large transformation or feels as if they at a junction of their lives where they are rethinking their identity.
