InkStainz Tattoo Studio in Jacksonville, Florida

Submitted by Jodie Michalak on Sun, 2014-05-04 01:23

Located in Jacksonville, Florida, owner and artist Jack Flores of InkStainz Tattoo Studio, disusses his business, art and the meaning of a tattoo.

How did you become a tattoo artist?

I learned from a biker who was also a tattooist. He did freehand work that just looked amazing, I was taken aback by how real tattoos could look. So I started working at a shop and learned the old school way. It wasn’t a traditional apprenticeship like we see now.

Are you considering a tattoo lettering design?

Currently one of the most popular requests that are showing up in tattoo shops across the nation, Carolyn Hawkins, artist and owner of Shelton Tattoo in Fairfield, Connecticut offers her opinion and advice on the tattoo lettering trend.

"Writing tattoos are very popular right now. I do not want to encourage them.

I would like to get a yellow rose mural on my side but am unsure of the direction I'd like to take. I want the rose to be the main focal point, but I also have several other designs I want included. A baby chimp (probably just the head), a rooster (same, probably just the head), a fireman helmet, a dog paw print, aviator pin wings, and a peacock feather with a rainbow on the circular tip part.

Description

I would like to get a yellow rose mural on my side but am unsure of the direction I'd like to take. I want the rose to be the main focal point, but I also have several other designs I want included. A baby chimp (probably just the head), a rooster (same, probably just the head), a fireman helmet, a dog paw print, aviator pin wings, and a peacock feather with a rainbow on the circular tip part. I'm not sure if I want these interacting with the rose, or if I want them hidden/silhouetted within the veins of the rose petals (everything but the peacock feather since obviously that requires color). I understand the rose would have to be more open to achieve the silhouetted version. I'm white, pretty fair skinned but not albino.
