The lower back is an especially common place for tattoos among women. In the early 1990's tattooing for women gained popularity among women. In the 2000's, lower back tattoos were the tattoo trend for women. This trend was made popular because of the influence of celebrities and musicians. Among these are Britney Spears and Pam Anderson. The fashion of the decade reflected the tattoo trend with low-rise jeans and crop tops. The lower back has little fat, which means the tattoos themselves will not be subject to stretching or change with weight gain or loss. It's also a very easy place to hide a tattoo when necessary. The lower back is a very sexy part of the woman's body, which has lead to the idea that lower back tattoos are sexy in nature. Because of this, the lower back tattoo has been associated with promiscuity. The nick name "tramp stamp" stems from this. Popular designs for the lower back are butterflies, flower, stars, ribbons, and other feminine designs.
