Tattoo artist Teejay Dill of White Tiger Tattoo in Rochetser, NY. shares her artistic experience in the industry, and the significance of medical tattooing.

Tell me about your tattoo shop in Rochester NY., and the artists:

White Tiger is a custom studio with two locations in and near Rochester NY. We have been in business since 1992 and I have owned the shop since 1993. We currently have nine artists working in a variety of styles ranging from Traditional to Realistic.

What Tattooing style do you specialize in?

Personally I work in realistic and illustrative styles - but between myself and the other artists in the shops we cover just about every style imaginable.

How do you find new inspirations for your tattoo designs?

Obviously most of the inspirations for the designs themselves come from the clients and their vision of their tattoo. From there artistically I draw from all sorts of sources and spend a lot of time working in other mediums. I oil paint regularly and attend Figure Drawing studios once a week at a local gallery.

What personal sacrifices have you made to become a professional tattoo artist?

I'm sure there are a lot, but I prefer not to dwell on them. I like to stay focused on the positive in all aspects of my life.

Describe a time you where you believe your talent truly helped someone?

I tattoo nipple areola complexes back onto women who have had mastectomies (usually as a cancer treatment). This work is inordinately rewarding and allows me to help women heal and move forward with their lives. My goal in my tattooing is to help people feel more comfortable in their own skin and nowhere is this more evident than it is with the medical work.

What is the greatest professional goal you have achieved as a tattoo artist?

Tattooing has brought so many amazing things to my life that it would be difficult to pick just one to be the greatest.

Tattooing helped me raise my children, buy my home, travel the world, expand my horizons and learn so much about the world around me. Tattooing is more than what I do - it is part of who I am and what I love in life.

How can a wondrous beautiful life be narrowed down to one event, moment or goal that best defines it?

When you aren’t doing a tattoo in Rochester, you can be found…

Making art of other kinds.

Spending time with my family.

Riding my motorcycle.

Digging in the garden.

Hunched over a computer.

I guess you just never know where I might show up or what I might be up to.
