Rapper, songwriter, and music and film producer Vi City recently dropped his single/music video, “Won’t Do,” featuring Ari Stylez.
Talking about “Won’t Do,” Vi City shares, “This song and the entire project were born from the depths of heartbreak that I was experiencing and causing simultaneously. It was a moment in my life where I had to confront my own emotional growth or lack thereof while feeling the pain of my circumstances. I was on a journey to discover who I truly was and who I wanted to become.”
He goes on, “In the midst of this, I couldn’t help but check social media to see how the person I used to connect with was doing. She seemed to be living an extravagant life, jet-setting to amazing places, and giving off the impression that nothing bothered her. I just chuckled to myself and thought, ‘Oh, someone’s treating her well now, huh?’ Salute to them. But that made me really decide to refocus on myself.”
Continuing, he explains, “This song isn’t just a statement to say that I can do it too, but it’s a reminder that when I do something, I do it with love, and it holds a special meaning for me. It’s about staying true to my purpose, staying focused on what truly matters, and moving forward. And if I ever connect with someone I care about in the future, I’ll make sure to keep it a stack and take care of home, but never at the expense of losing myself in the process. I’m the kind of person who will do things that others simply won’t, because I do them from a place of love.”
Along with writing for Nelly, Vi City co-wrote and was featured on “Some Ish,” off Sir Michael Rocks’ smash debut album, co-produced tracks for Young Money, and has written, performed, and produced his own music for The Entourage.
Presently signed with Universal Music Publishing Group as a writer and producer, he has his own film division – Hundreds Entertainment, which signed multi-hyphenate artist Phoînix Keyz.
