Get ready Tonight Alive fans. The band’s much anticipated new album Underworld drops Friday, January 12th on Hopeless Records. This album, more than any of the band’s previous albums, delves into the heart and soul of lead singer Jenna McDougall, revealing both her pain and strength.
Underworld is Jenna’s journey through recent struggles life, walking listeners through her battle with depression, an eating disorder, and how she reclaimed her power as a woman. Jenna states, “The album is called Underworld because it reflects the ugly parts of me that I wasn’t ready to see til now. I think a lot of people have put me on a pedestal, thinking I’m a really happy, bright, positive person. I think it’s important to set an example that we all have darkness and we all have pain and that pain can make us sick. Emotional trauma can have a huge mental, physical, and spiritual effect and it’s important to address those things. The fact that it’s coming from a person like me, I hope is helpful because people definitely have had one perspective of me so far.”
I believe this album brings a lot to the proverbial table. It has plenty of unique and compelling melodies mixed with a potent dose of solid Rock. Additionally, duets with Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) and Lynn Gunn (PVRIS) provide an extra punch to the album that new and old fans will appreciate. Because it is so raw and real, I believe it may be their best album to date.
The band has released two videos from the album, believe me, are both truly must see and hear works of art. Personally, I can’t decide if I like “Temple” or “Crack My Heart” better. What do you think?
“Temple” is empowering. The raw emotion behind the lyrics is overwhelming. The chorus is infectious. The music is melodic, energetic, and heavy – just the way I like it. This is probably my favorite track on the album.
“Crack My Heart” is a chilling song and video. I see it as a person who is broken and at the lowest point of their life, speaking to their angels, and the angels answering back. This song and video hit me in the core of my soul.
You don’t have to wait until January 12th to order “Underworld” – you can pre-order today at http://smarturl.it/TAUnderworld
