Boynton Beach, FL artist Jake Steele has been tattooing for 8 years. He was always inspired by the music scene before he started his career as a tattoo artist and thought being tattooed went hand in hand with rock and roll, so he pursued it. Once he began tattooing, Jake admired artists like Nikko Hurtado, Victor Chil, Tony Ciavarro, Gunnar, and Jesse Smith – “I attempted to model my work after these guys and I am still amazed and inspired by them.”
How would you describe your style?
I’ve always loved cartoons and I’ve always loved realism, I just try to manifest what my clients ask of me.
How many tattoos do you have?
Two sleeves, full front tattoo, and most of my legs are done.
Most interesting/funny/awkward tattooing experience?
I tattooed a Louis Vuitton print on a scrotum. That was pretty awesome haha.
What is one of your pet peeves as a tattoo artist?
Meeting other artists that are ungrateful.
If you could tattoo any person in the world, who would you choose?
Eminem. Hands down.
Besides tattooing, what are you passionate about?
I love to travel, read, and juggle.
Tell us about your shop/studio – what can a client expect when they walk through your doors?
It’s a fast-paced, walk-in shop. It’s a big open space with a lot of personality.
Any advice for aspiring tattoo artists?
Always be respectful. Opportunities come when you have a strong work ethic and you demonstrate respect. There are plenty of very talented people out there. The people who are kind, compassionate, and grateful will excel.
