Brother Brother Drops New Single, ‘With My Eyes Wide Open’

Brother Brother

Meet Brother Brother, a duo from Nashville by way of Sarasota, Florida, who just dropped a new single, called “With My Eyes Wide Open. Made up of brothers, Brett and Bradley Anderson, Brother Brother describes their sound as “indie rock with a banjo.”

Explaining the genesis of the song, Brother Brother says, “We wrote this song from a very personal and emotional place. While it represents a progression of sound for us, it also deals with things lyrically that we’ve only now been able to express as a band. “With My Eyes Wide Open” is our answer to those things we have experienced as brothers this last year. Changes in life, location, family, friends, and shows can be difficult or devastating sometimes, and we watch those changes with our eyes wide open. Those changes echo around in your brain whether you like it or not. The biggest wars and the hardest moments for us are often not the ones people see… they’re the ones we fight in our heads. This song is our battle cry. If you’re fighting too, this is for you as well.”

Brother Brother began their musical journey a few years ago, starting out as a grassroots, hometown band playing ten shows per year. But things changed after they were invited to perform in Branson, Missouri, where almost overnight they were playing ten shows per week for 52-weeks each year.

“With My Eyes Wide Open” opens with measured pop-flavored vocal harmonies flowing into a hip-hop tune with a tinkling chop-sticks-like piano and a delicious banjo. The groove pulses with dynamic energy riding on a thumping kick drum and slapping bassline. The flow of tight and right rap over the banjo imbues the music with an elusive pop-rock aroma, while the trap beat gives the tune muscle.

Velvety almost gospel choir-like harmonies back up the rapping lyrics as the tune closes, infusing the tune with glorious textures, both snug and sublime.

“With My Eyes Wide Open” merges a variety of styles, rap, indie-rock, and pop into potent sound full of infectious tangs. The banjo-driven trap shuffle is uniquely magnetic and unprecedented. Brother Brother definitely has next up.
