Internationally renowned singer-songwriter, composer, and band/label head Christopher Sluka has returned with an epic song, “Saving It All,” a deeply human and moving track lifted from his forthcoming album, Cautionary Yell.
Talking about his creative process, Christopher Sluka says, “I can hear the arrangement, structure, and the lyrics. So, that’s when I sit down at the piano or guitar and begin to make a demo in my home studio.”
He goes on, “The recording studio is very intimate and challenging in a creative way. While working I made sure it still sounds like a Sluka album, it is even more orchestral, epic, fun, and emotional… which is what you aspire to accomplish as an artist.”
Highlighted by densely melodic downtempo harmonics, “Saving It All” takes the perspective of watching the world from outer space, à la David Bowie. The fact that the theme surrounds looking down at our planet is appropriate, given both band members are professional pilots.
The bold lyricism and spacious music are truly inspired, radiating a sense of possibility for us and the world we live in against seemingly insurmountable odds.
“Saving It All” was inspired by the film, A Trip to The Moon, by Georges Méliés, and the novel, From the Earth to the Moon, by Jules Verne, and likely Carl Sagan as well.
Normally a very serious composer, with 13 studio albums under his belt as well as having written for and performed with some of the biggest names in music history, “Saving It All” sees Sluka tapping into both vulnerability and optimism.
With a world constantly on the edge and teetering towards further chaos, Sluka’s new release emits a calm beauty, and, yes, even hope. The perfect listening experience for anyone looking to take a break from the 24-hour news feed, find space to take a breath, and feel inspired.
An elegant, glittering intro escorts listeners into the plush soundscape of “Saving It All.” A crunching, accented rhythm provides the matrix for the shimmering glow of the melody as Sluka’s evocative vocals give the lyrics textures of gratitude, anticipation, and faith in humanity.
“Saving it all for another day.”
With “Saving It All,” Sluka offers a beautiful view of the extant world, its magnificence, and its exquisite value – worth saving.
