Country singer Rob Georg recently released an exquisite new song – “When I Make It Home For Christmas.”
In the spring of 2019, Rob Georg and Kristin K. Smith asked this question: Does the world need another Christmas Song? They came to the conclusion that yes, another Christmas Song was justified, if it was distinctive.
Their idea was to write a song from the viewpoint of a soldier, serving his/her country in some foreign country, wishing he could be home with his/her family and loved ones for the holiday. Teaming up with Corey Lee Barker, NACMAI songwriter of the year in 2012, they crafted a song rife with the aura of Christmas, but one pervaded by gratitude for the soldier’s service and personal sacrifice.
Originally from Germany, Rob Georg’s birthplace was Tubingen, where he grew up playing piano, followed by learning guitar when in his teens. In 2018, he released his debut single, “Push That Horn.” His first song accompanied by a band was released at the end of 2018. The song, “This Ain’t My First Rodeo,” hit the Top Ten on the US National Radio Hits AC Chart.
Rob’s other passion is horses. He’s heavily involved in Cutting, where riders mount saddle horses trained to isolate cattle from a herd. For the duration of 2009 to 2018, he successfully showed Cutting Horses in the US and Europe, and served on the board of Germany’s National Cutting Horse Association.
“When I Make It Home For Chritmas” opens on a tender nostalgic guitar flowing into a creamy undulating country melody riding a measured rhythm, low-slung yet powerfully evocative. Elegant strings curve on sumptuous textures, bathing the tune in silky tones.
Rob’s deep tenor, suffused with gravelly surfaces, imbues the lyrics with magnetic ambiance, sweetly melancholic and melodic.
“At night I look up at the sky / Pretend the stars are Christmas lights / Draped across our tree / And I, I think of you / I bow my head and say a prayer / Christmas wish I hope God hears / That you’ll feel me over there / And I hope you do / When I make it home for Christmas / Gonna wrap you in my arms.”
“When I Make It Home For Christmas” is a beautiful song, full of tantalizing wistful hues and the haunting, memorable voice of Rob Georg.
