Alt-metal outfit Riding With Killers release their new single/lyric video, “Don’t Fade Away,” a track lifted from their long player, Full Circle, produced by Matthew LaPlant.
Full Circle supplies the narrative of guitarist/vocalist Taylor Roberts, revealing his challenges and successes. Inspired by being lost on an island, “Do This On My Own” relates Roberts’ face-to-face meeting with self-reliance.
Roberts plays guitar for both Taproot and Riding With Killers. The latter project emerged from his former projects Cathercist and Wild Fire, both of which enjoyed success. Riding With Killers current lineup consists of Roberts (lead guitar, vocals), Jed Thibeault (drums), and Kris Kress (bass).
Riding With Killers’ sound blends elements of ‘90s alt-rock, industrial, and nu-metal into heavy, contagious music highlighted by a luscious melodicism. The trio recently performed at Havoc Fest in Michigan, along with Kittle, Cold, Smile Empty Soul, Conquer Divide, and others.
“Don’t Fade Away” rolls out on chiming tones accompanied by a spectral female voice, and then elevates to dark, gleaming guitars rippling on mysterious surfaces. A shimmering, mounting bridge leads to thick, growling guitars topped by Roberts’ rich, evocative vocals, simultaneously passionate, urgent, and imploring. A razor-wire, luminous guitar saturates the outro in impending textures.
At once haunting and healing, “Don’t Fade Away” wrestles with the all-consuming complexion of profoundly affecting emotions.
