Heavyweight Nu-rock outfit Coldwards introduces their latest single/music video, “The Fire Inside,” featuring the powerful vocals of Jonathan Norris of Kingdom Collapse, who produced and mixed the song.
Based in Houston, Texas, Coldwards comprises drummer Paul Crosby of Grammy-nominated and Gold and Platinum awarded Saliva, along with Zac Crosby (vocals, electronics), Michael Friese (guitar), and Richie Hey (bass). Formed in 2020 during the pandemic, the band quickly signed with Pepper Gomez’s label Wake Up! Music Rocks.
In 2022, Coldwards released “My Skeletons,” followed by “Stained on You,” “Whirlwind,” “Bad News,” and “Flatline.” Their much-streamed – more than one million – debut album, Bloodwork, dropped in September of 2022. Right now, the band is putting the finishing touches on their upcoming EP, Bad News, slated to be released this summer.
Their sound is vaguely reminiscent of Linkin Park crossed with Drowning Pool, with hints of Slipknot-like ferocity filtering through. It’s a sound composed of thick guitars laced with refined textures.
“The Fire Inside” opens on dark, burning, growling guitars topped by Zac’s deliciously edgy vocals, imbuing the lyrics with passionate energy. Paul Crosby’s formidable drumming blends with Hey’s thundering bassline to create a dense rhythmic matrix. Norris’ elemental voice enters the chorus, adding lethal intensity. The combination of two of rock’s best vocalists elevates the song to crushing levels.
“You gotta stand up and fight, fight / It’s neck and neck Do or die, die / When will you ever realize you’re slowly running out of time / Fight, fight.”
With “The Fire Inside,” Coldwards delivers an electrifying smash-and-grab, rife with infectious hooks, savage riffs, and cauterizing vocals.
