Open since 2012, Madball Tattoo shop in Carson, CA is quickly gaining a stellar reputation for quality black and grey and script tattoos.

I took a moment to speak with Cyril “Madball” Gomez about his shop and talented crew.

Tell me about your shop and the artists:

I specialize in Black and Grey, script and Realism tattoos. I also do lots of cover-ups.

Tuna does many Traditional tattoos, and Reuben focuses on all the basics and fundamentals such as black and grey and traditional designs.

Then we have Lina, who is our resident full body piercer.

What was the last tattoo you drew?

A full color octopus.

What are some of the current design trends at Madball Tattoo shop in Carson?

Octopus, mermaids, and other aquatic or animal designs.

Describe Madball Tattoos in just a few words:

Clean, spacious and welcoming. It has a good vibe and just feels like home.

How do you find new inspirations for your tattoo designs?

I grew up around art. I drew a lot. In 2001 my friend made me a tattoo machine and then had me tattoo him. That was it after that. So I mostly get inspired by life and art.

Describe a time you where you believe your talent truly helped someone?

I had a client whose father was dying and she really wanted a handwriting tattoo which was difficult because he was so weak. She finally came in with his writing; he was able to pen, ‘Stay strong I love you.’

The tattoo was very simple, because his writing was shaky, but she wanted it to be exact. The next morning she called and told me her father passed away, she wanted to add the dates underneath right away so I squeezed her in.

Sometimes being a tattooist is like being a psychologist. You have to listen to people and especially make them comfortable for long periods of time.

What is the greatest professional goal you have achieved as a tattoo artist?

Just having my own shop. It hasn’t always been easy but you just gotta keep moving, keep going.

When you aren’t tattooing, you can be found…

I’m a husband and father to two boys, ages seven and nine. They both play lots of sports so their schedules keep me very busy.
