South Florida nu-pop melodic rap duo the ET Boys introduce their brand-new single/lyric video, “Bong Bong,” a track revealing the ET Boys’ continuous reinvention of their sound, while still retaining their signature vibe.
Originally from Chicago, but now based in Miami-Broward, two Latino brothers named Tacboy and Sharkeyes, are the virtuosi who make up the ET Boys. Vocals and lyrics are handled by Tacboy, while Sharkeyes writes the music.
The pair grew up in a musical household, listening to everything from Flamenco to the Doors. Music lessons were mandatory, piano, drums, and guitar. Later, while in university, Sharkeyes started sharing his songs with Tacboy, who put lyrics and vocal melodies to the music. There was a chemistry there.
Pepper Gomez of Wake Up! Music signed them to her label, connecting them with producer and musician Sahaj Ticotin of the band Ra. Working with Sahaj allowed the brothers to evolve their distinctive sound. In 2021, they released their debut single/video, “Sober,” which amassed more than 780,000 streams on Spotify and beaucoup views on YouTube.
The ET Boys followed with seven singles and then dropped their debut album, Forever Night, at the end of 2022. The album collected two million streams on Spotify. The ET Boys will end 2023 with double single releases as well as a song slated for the 12th annual MJBizCon conference which Tacboy and Sharkeyes will attend.
Mysterious and gorgeous, Tacboy’s vocals drip with an innate sensuality akin to Jim Morrison and Robert Plant. He is the perfect frontman, whose voluptuous vocals bare the seduction of his lyrics. Equally enigmatic, hidden behind his mask, Sharkeyes forges exceptional rhythms and interplaying melodies that reveal deep-rooted emotional responses.
“Bong Bong” opens on a nursery rhyme-like piano flowing into a deliciously vibrant blend of pop and hip-hop flavors. The syncopated, thumping beat runs in contrast to Tacboys’ sensual vocals highlighted by a chirruping, oscillating synth line, in turn decorated by brass-like accents. The feel and flow of the tune are both alluring and happy-go-lucky.
Ooh la la! On the surface simple, yet oh-so complex in structure, “Bong Bong” expresses the sheer artistry of the ET Boys.
