Lady Luck Tattoo Gallery in Tempe, Arizona

Published on April 1, 2014 by Jodie Michalak

Tony Olvera had luck on his side when he opened Lady Luck Tattoo Gallery in Tempe, Arizona. Named after a good friend who was his incidental muse during a lucky spin in Vegas, Tony hit the jackpot once again when he opened the doors to his artful tattoo studio, a lucky seven years ago.

With five other professional tattoo artists working at the tattoo shop, Lady Luck has a stellar reputation for creating custom tattoo designs, without gambling your satisfaction.

Tell me about your shop, the artists and what styles you specialize in:

We are a very eclectic mix of tattooists. We have been open for seven years, five total artists, and between all of us we can cover any type of tattoo designs.

My personal favorites are black and grey, color realism, and Neo-Traditional, though I try not to limit myself into any specific tattooing style. We are pretty much a full custom shop, there is no flash on the walls, just art. Pretty much all we do is cover-up and custom tattoo designs.

Can you name any artists who have influenced your work?

There is truly just too many, there are so many artists that I admire, I really can’t narrow it down.

Where do you find inspiration for your tattoos?

I try to tie my ideas in by listening to what the customer wants. Whatever works with that, and with what they are interested in wearing.

What personal sacrifices have you made to become a professional tattoo artist?

Gone through tons of relationships, the hours I put in, no real days off.

Describe a time you where you believe your talent truly helped someone?

I would say when I tattooed a guy who is a Diabetic, I tattooed a medical tattoo of what type of Diabetes he has, so in case he has an emergency and goes to the hospital, they will know of his condition.

What is the greatest professional goal you have achieved as a tattoo artist?

I still haven’t achieved everything I want, but just having the shop here and to keep it running this many years.

If you weren’t a tattoo artist you would most likely be

I would probably be a painter. That is originally what I did for as long as I can remember. I have always painted and have been an artist my whole life.
